Beautiful Butterfly Stamps

You see them flitting about, alighting gently on garden flowers, fluttering lazily in summer skies, their rainbow-hued wings glinting in the sunlight. Watching butterflies dance through the garden is one of the pure joys of summer. A beautiful 6-stamp set (shown at right) has been issued by the Netherlands Antilles in celebration of this ephemeral summer wonder (click the post title for a closer look).
There are 15,000 to 20,000 different species of butterfly worldwide. Belonging to the order Lepidoptera, the minute colored scales on a butterfly's wings provide camouflage from predators.

The word butterfly is derived from the Old English word butterfleoge which means to steal milk. Dutch and German derivations share the same meaning. In medieval times, butterflies were thought to steal the milk from cows.

County Stamp Center carries more than 300 different butterfly stamps. Visit our website to view these beautiful stamps and check out hundreds of other issues of all kinds. County Stamp Center is your first and best source for all your philatelic needs.
