Stamps Feature 5 Illustrations from "The Little Prince"
County Stamp Center is honored to offer two exquisite color trial proof sheets commemorating The Little Prince. Issued in 1998, the stamps depict five original illustrations from the famous novel by Saint-Exupery. (Click the post title for more information.)
Published in 1943 and widely translated since, the French author's most famous novel was written in New York City as a children's story. In it Saint-Exupery imagines himself stranded in the Sahara where he meets a young extra-terrestrial prince. The story explores human life and relations seen from a child's view of the world. Though written for children, it's simple truths struck a chord with many adults. Perhaps the book's most important lesson is contained in the famous line: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
