United Nations Celebrates 60 Years

With visions of the apocalypse fresh in their minds, post World War II nations joined together to form the United Nations in the hopes of ensuring world peace.
From its founding in 1945, the United Nations has grown to include 192 member nations, virtually all of the planet's internationally recognized independent nations, according to Wikipedia. Its mission is international cooperation in the pursuit of law, security, economic development, and social equality for all nations.
It is fitting that this beautiful stamp celebrating the UN's 60th anniversary is issued by the Yemen Arab Republic. In a part of the world now torn by war and strife, where UN forces are being deployed to keep the peace, it is important that the peaceful mission of the UN be celebrated.
